Solar Projects Lead
Sharenergy is looking for a Solar Projects Lead to join our Development team.
As a key part of our Big Solar Co-op project you will work with a UK-wide network of activists to build new solar PV in their neighbourhood on a wide range of public and commercial buildings and sites.
Your most important daily work will be in project managing the delivery of our solar projects. You’ll be in charge of delivering our Pioneer Programme of 25 rooftop installs across the UK, and to help grow our team and capabilities so that we can deliver our ambitious target of 100 MW of new solar by 2025.
We need a solar generalist who will be focused on delivering the nuts and bolts of schemes but who is able to feed in to the development of our project at multiple levels, including strategy, business development, sales and training.
You will need to have:
- 5yrs+ experience of delivering solar projects on buildings in the UK in a project manager role.
A portfolio of projects to show us, where you were pulling the strings to get them built on budget and on time. - A deep understanding of solar PV technology with an up to date awareness of developments in technology and the way the UK solar market works.
- A commitment to work alongside others – team members, other community energy organisations, host sites and volunteers in a professional and friendly manner.
- Ability to use both modern and traditional means of communication and to work with and help improve our online systems.
- Experience in a commercial or social business environment giving you a good command of financial, policy and project management fundamentals.
You don’t absolutely have to have experience with community energy projects but you will need to understand and support the aims of the community energy movement. You will need to be fired up to find practical solutions to the climate crisis.

Sharenergy is a not-for-profit co-operative helping people to set up new community-owned renewable energy societies. Sharenergy works across the UK and across the technologies. Founded in 2011, we have worked with over 100 community energy groups and have been instrumental in establishing many successful and innovative projects.
The Big Solar Coop
The Big Solar Co-op is Sharenergy’s flagship solar project. We are working to enable community solar to flourish anywhere, without subsidy, on a range of rooftops and sites. We work with an ever-growing network of highly skilled and dedicated volunteers who we support to find, assess and sign up solar host sites. These local activists are supported by a professional team providing management, coordination and administrative support.
Details
Location: The role is based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, but we are happy to accept applications from candidates who are based elsewhere.
As we are working with community groups throughout the UK, travel for site visits and meetings is a constant aspect of the role and the successful candidate may expect to travel on 2 or 3 days a week once current restrictions are lifted.
Hours: Nominally normal office hours. However it is often necessary to attend meetings in the evenings and occasionally on weekends. There will be a need for the occasional overnight stay. Applicants need to be flexible and willing to work around the needs of the projects.
Employment: Full-time, 3 year fixed term contract, which may be renewed.
Salary: £28,000-£32,000 per annum.
Holidays: 25 days plus statutory holidays.
Office and Equipment: Sharenergy will supply all necessary equipment.
Travel: We use public transport wherever possible but you will need to have a full UK driving licence.
