Speech House Hotel

The Speech House Hotel

The Speech House Hotel is a former 17th-century hunting lodge set in the heart of the idyllic Royal Forest of Dean. A family run business that combines a modern hotel and wedding venue facilities in a location with a fascinating history.

It was here that Verderers court, for the protection of vert and venison was held. From 1858 The Speech House was let by the Crown as an Inn, with the courtroom still being reserved for Verderers when required. These days the Court sits on average only 4 times a year when matters concerning the Forest are discussed.

The installation of 139 solar panels on the more modern additions to the original buildings will help to underpin the green policy of the business. The Speech House Hotel is a member of the Forest of Dean Climate Charter, has a Silver EcoSmart award, and the Big Solar Co-op is delighted to be part of this longstanding aim to reduce its carbon footprint.

The Big Solar Co-op has enabled us to put solar panels on the unlisted rooves of our Hotel. Without their funding, expertise and their interaction with the local planners, we would not have achieved what is vital part of our ambition to reduce our carbon footprint as well as the ever-growing utility costs. We do not have the financial resources, or the manpower hours to have carried out this project.

The Big Solar Co-op has proved to be extremely professional, and their team has worked with us all from start to finish . We are very grateful to them and very happy to recommend them as an organization.
